The Waianae Coastline is famous all over the world for its spectacular beaches, lush valleys and small town feel which locals pride themselves on. It is one of the only places in all of Oahu where produce such as flowers, cattle and vegetables are still farmed in significant numbers. The locals are proud of their ability to retain a tightly knit small community which is still very much linked to the cultures of Old Hawaii, and many residents have lived in Waianae for several generations. Housing here is comprised of several single and multi family dwellings, apartment buildings and condos, all of which are very affordable. Because the neighborhood has managed to avoid over development, there are very few top end houses along their coastline.
Waianae is still largely a rural location which boasts easy access to the beach and wide open recreational spaces such as Waianae Field, Waianae Regional Park, Pililaau Community Park and Kaupuni Neighborhood Park. The nearby Waianae Mall Shopping Center provides several services and venues to locals, including plenty of eateries and its own Longs Drugstore. You will be able to seek traditional Hawaiian medical treatment at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, which has become the center of choice amongst residents over the past 30 years; this is largely due to their great treatment of locals and strong emphasis on preserving their culture. The Waianae Coastline is a part of the Waianae-Nanakuli school district, which is comprised of six different elementary schools which prepare your child for life at Waianae or Nanakuli Intermediate Middle Schools and High Schools. You also have the option of a more traditional charter school which places high importance on teaching Hawaiian values.
