Located on the hillside of the Waianae Mountains is a community that began to become developed in the sixties. The area is home to many different styles of houses, including those single family homes that are usually located in Royal Ride, while there are also more recently developed homes in Westview. Of course, the person is going to be able to find older homes available throughout the area as well. So why do people choose this area? One reason is due to the cooler temperatures that they get due to the high elevation of the community, and the views are also something that brings people to the area.
For those that live in the area they frequently visit Makakilo Shopping Center, which is going to provide them with the staples that they are going to need in order to live in the area. For those with families, they are going to find that the Hawaiian Adventures Waterpark is near the area that is a great place for children and adults to visit. There are also a few parks in the neighborhood including the Makakilo Neighborhood Park, Makakilo Height Neighborhood Park and so forth. Those with children should note that the Makakilo area is a part of the Kapolei Complex district, giving an option for four elementary schools and then going to the Kapolei Middle and Kapolei High School.
