Oahu has many forested regions so there are many waterfalls. Most of the waterfalls are located inside the deep mountain forest. There are many breathtaking waterfalls in Oahu including La’ ie Falls, Manoa Falls, Maunawili Falls, and Waimea Falls. La’ ie Falls is a waterfall that measures about 15 feet in height. Hikers can follow a trail to the waterfall. Before hiking, be sure to obtain the permit from the La’ie Shopping Center. You can view the mountains and sea on the northeastern side of Oahu while following the trail. It takes about 3 – 4 hours to complete the trail. When hiking, be sure to check the map so that you won’t get lost. The difficulty of the hiking trip to the La’ ie Falls is medium. It will be more difficult to hike to the summit of the mountain. The types of trees that you will see at the place nearby the waterfall include cook pine trees, strawberry guava trees and etc.
Manoa Falls is about 150 feet high. The waterfall has a vertical cliff where the water gushes down into a pool. It is relatively easy to hike the Manoa Falls. The length of the hike is about 1.5 mile. During the hike to the waterfall, you will be able to observe the bamboo tree, rainforest and etc. There are a lot of boulders and rocks at the bottom of the pool so it is not safe for swimming. It is recommended that you don’t drink the water from the pool.
Maunawili Falls is suitable for people that are new to hiking in Oahu. The trail was recently open to the public again. The waterfall height is approximately 20 feet high. The water from the waterfall flows towards a large pool. The pool is quite deep and has many rocks at the bottom. Before jumping into the pool, you should check what is underneath the surface. The hiking trail to Maunawili Falls is easy and suitable for children. To reach the waterfall, you have to cross the muddy stream. It is not advised that you drink the water because it contains microorganisms such as Leptospirosis and etc. If you suffer from a cut on the skin, it will not be safe to swim in the pool.
Waimea Falls is part of an 1800-acre nature park situated in the Waimea Valley. At the park, you can view shows that exhibit the lifestyle of native Hawaiian people. Some of the shows you can watch at the nature park include hula performance, music show and etc. There are a number of archeological sites you can explore at the park. By visiting the Waimea Falls Park, you will get first hand experience on the Hawaiian culture. The Waimea Falls is about 48 feet high. You can challenge yourself to climb the slippery waterfall. You can also dive from the ledge of the waterfall. During the show, visitors can go for a dip in the pool. Besides, you can participate in a self-guided walking tour that let the visitors explore the plants in 35 tropical botanical gardens.
