Nuuanu Pali Lookout is also known as Cool Height Cliff. In Hawaiian language, Pali refers to cliff. There are many winds in this area. You can enjoy the wind blowing against you while watching the scenery from the Pali Lookout. It is situated about 5 miles from the Honolulu town. The Nuuanu Pali lookout can be found along the Pali Highway. It is situated in between the Honolulu and Kailua. It offers visitors a clear view on the panorama of the 985-foot of the Koolau Mountain. If you are in the Pali Lookout, you can observe important places in Oahu such as Kaneohe Bay, Windward Campus and etc. At the back of the Pali Lookout, you will find two guardian stones including Ka-lae-hau-ola and Hapuu stones. The native Hawaiians have superstitions that the guardian stones are goddesses who in charge of the path that leads towards the Pali cliffs.
You can either hike the road or drive a vehicle to reach the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. If you drive to the Pali Lookout, you will pass through a forest with lots of trees. The site of the lookout is located more than 1000 feet from the coastline of Oahu. The stone terrace at the lookout site overlooks numerous areas in the regions such as Kaneohe. From the Nuuanu Pali Lookout, you can observe the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden.
Nuuanu Pali Lookout is the site where King Kamehameha I fight off more than 10,000 soldiers in Kauai. King Kamehameha I and his soldiers marched ambush against the armies in Oahu after they arrived at the Pali Lookout. The soldiers of King Kamehameha I overcome the soldiers of Kalanikupule from Oahu. Kalanikupule’s men eventually withdrawn to the base of the valley. The battle between King Kamehameha I and Kalanikupule leader is the most significant history of Oahu. Archaeologists have uncovered more than 800 skulls in the earth.
If you want to come to this place, be sure to come in between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The admission to the place is free. Ample parking space is provided. To park in the car park, you have to pay $3 for the parking ticket. It is recommended that you remove the hat when hiking the trail because there is a strong wind blowing in the area. If your children accompany you, you should hold their hands because of the gusty wind.
