Visiting Malaekahana State Recreation Park

Malaekahana State Recreation Park is a beach park with many trees. It covers about 37 acre of wood forests. The beach at this park is suitable for all kinds of recreational activities including fishing, camping, body surfing, and etc. There are plenty of facilities at the park including restrooms, outdoor showers, payphone and etc. Many people often choose Malaekahana St. Recreation Park as the site for their weddings. There is a cabin and campsite at the park.

 

Since a long time ago, the park is known as Puuhonua. In the Hawaiian language, Puuhonua is a place of refuge. It is the first park to be run by native Hawaiian people. Malaekahana St. Recreation Park has one of the safest campgrounds in Hawaii. On site security is available for 24 hours so you should feel secure when camping here. The scenery of he Malaekahana beach is beautiful. You will enjoy the scenery of the Malaekahana beach. Malaekahana St. Recreation Park has more than 40 primitive campsites. Fire pits are available at each of the campground. You will find plenty of picnic tables at the park. Toilet facilities can be found in the primitive campsites as well.

 

If you plan to stay at the campsite, you have to pay a rental rate. For the primitive campsite, you have to pay $8.34. Children that aged less than 3 years old can camp at the area free of charge. If you want to camp at the yurt, you have to pay at least $40 - $60. You should check in to the campsite after 12 o’ clock in the afternoon. The checkout time at the campsite is 12 o’ clock in the afternoon as well. Pets are not allowed in the campground. You can make reservation for the campground in between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

 

Besides the 40 primitive campsites, there are 5 yurts available for rental. The yurts are equipped with modern facilities such as electricity. Each yurt can accommodate 2 – 6 people. You can enjoy fishing at the Makahoa Point in Windward Coast. The Makahoa Point is located quite near to the park. Many sea turtles live in the Malaekahana Bay. You can travel to the James Campbell National Refuge to watch birds. The Moku Auia Seabird Sanctuary is located about 600 feet offshore from the Malaekahana Bay. There are more than 10 seabird species dwelling in the Moku Auia Seabird Sanctuary.
