Every year, the residents in Molokai will come together to celebrate festivals. Several types of festivals are celebrated in Molokai including Ka Molokai Makahiki Festival, Prince Kuhio Celebration, Hoomau Educational Hoolaulea, Molokai Earth Day Celebration, Kaiwi Challenge Relay, Ka Hula Piko Hula Festival and Kanaka Ikaika Kayak Race.
Ka Molokai Makahiki Festival celebrates the harvesting season. In ancient tradition, the chiefs from different districts will pay taxes and hold competitions. The festival is organized on the 29th of January 2011 from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Trainers will be available to help you organize the Makahiki Games. The festival is celebrated with games such as huki huki, hula dancing, Ulumaika and tug of war. During this day, various types of delicious cuisines will be served. Other activities that are carried out in the Ka Molokai Makahiki Festival include educational exhibitions, traditional crafts and etc. You can participate in the festival without paying any fee.
Prince Kuhio Celebration is celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole. The celebration events will take place at several locations including Prince Kuhio Park, Marriorr Waiohai Beach Club, Kauai Beach Resort and Poipu Beach. The event will be held from the 19th of March to 27th of March. Every day, there will be different scheduling of activities.
Hoomau Educational Hoolaulea is celebrated in honor of the Punana Leo O Molokai. During the festival, all kinds of Hawaiian music shows will be presented. There will be food booths and crafts exhibitions. The Keiki games will be organized at the Lanikeha Center. The festival is held on the 9th of April. The festival will begin at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
Molokai Earth Day Celebration has been celebrated since 1995. The event is celebrated to teach the residents about the importance of protecting the environment. At the event, the residents will learn about the different things they can do to preserve the natural resources. Molokai Earth Day Celebration will take place from 5 a.m. – 9 p.m. The ono food will be served during the celebration. Besides, various kinds of entertainment activities and earth day exhibition will be available at the festival.
Ka Hula Piko Festival is held at the Mitchell Pauole Center in Kaunakakai. The event will be held on the 12th – 14th of May. On the 12th of May, there will be an on site excursion. The A Mau A Mau documentary film is shown on the 13th of May.
