Agriculture is the main industry of Molokai. Some of the large farms in Molokai are open to tourist for visitation. There are a number of farms which tourists can visit including Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove, Purdy All Natural Macadamia Nut Farm, Coffees of Hawaii and Molokai Museum and Cultural Center. Kapuaiwa Coconut Grove is about 2 miles from Kaunakakai. The park has more than 1000 coconut trees. Most of the coconut trees grow beside the sea. If you enjoy the beach scenery, you can bring your camera and take the photos. There is a tendency for the coconut to drop from the coconut tree. Therefore, it is important that you be careful when walking in the coconut plantation.
When in Molokai, you should visit the Purdy’s All Natural macadamia nut farm. The macadamia nut farm can be found at the Lihi Pal Avenue. If you want to buy the premium nuts, you can visit the farm. At the macadamia nut farm, you can watch live the staffs crack the nut. You can take part in a guided tour to explore the process of nut growing and harvesting.
There is a coffee plantation at 1630 Farrington Avenue in Kualapuu. The site used to be a pineapple plantation. However, Coffee of Hawaii purchased the plantation and converted it into a coffee plantation. Tourists can participate in the Morning Espresso Tour to explore the coffee plantation. To take part in the Morning Espresso Tour, you have to pay for a ticket that cost about $20. The plantation also offers the Mule Drawn Wagon Tour. The Mule Drawn Wagon Tour is suitable for people that don’t like to hike the field. The cost for the Mule Drawn Wagon tour is $35. You should spend at least 3 hours to tour the island. You can stop by at the Espresso Bar to enjoy coffee beverages. The Espresso Bar offers a variety of food that is made from chocolate. You can visit the art and craft store at the coffee plantation to buy souvenirs.
Molokai Museum and Cultural Center is situated at the Meyer Sugar Mill. If you drive on the Highway 470, you should be able to find the cultural center. The cost of admission is about $1 per student. The ticket cost for adult is $4. Rudolph W. Meyer originally built the sugar plantation. After the plantation closed down, the National Register of Historic Places restores the mill.
