Maui is a popular beach vacation destination for tourists from around the world. Some of the beaches you can visit at Maui include Ahihi Kinau Bay and Nature Preserve, Big Beach, Black Rock, Black Sand Beach, Changs Beach, Charley Young Beach, Hamoa Beach, DT Flemming Beach Park and Ka’anapali Beach.
Ahihi Kinau Bay and Nature Preserve is a protected bay. It is located at the Ahihi-Kina’u Natural Area Reserve. The authority of the reserve does not allow visitors to catch fish. You are not allowed to use spear to capture the fish in the reserve. The beach does not have any sand. It is a suitable place to go snorkeling at the water since there is no wind. The bay is formed from the lava flow that occurred on Maui in 1790. When the volcano erupted, the lave flow down and create a beautiful landscape.
Big Beach, also known as Makena Beach is about 2/3 mile in length. The width of the beach Is more than 100 yards. At Maui, many people will call it as the beach. It is an extremely crowded beach. Every weekend, the area will be crowded with visitors. The beach has two sections. The bigger section is called the Big Beach while the second section is called the Little Beach. The sections were developed during the 1790 because of a large earthquake. The hill that is in between the two sections is the Earthquake Hill.
Black Sands Beach is formed from the dark cinder of the volcano. If you are interested in exploring the geological aspects, you can visit this beach. Nearby to the beach, there is a trail. The trail leads to the cinder cone. You can explore all kinds of marine lives under the water. At Black Sands Beach, there are no facilities and lifeguards. The beach is suitable for tourists who want to carry out recreational activities such as fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving and etc.
Chang’s Beach is a park beach often visited by the local people. The location of the beach is near to the Kalama Park. Chang’s Beach is suitable for performing surfing activity.
Charley Young Beach is located in a 3 acres beach park. The sand of the beach is soft and slightly slants into the water. The geological feature of the beach causes it to be protected from the strong winds. From Charley Young Beach, you can view the ocean and surrounding tows. There are a few portable toilets and showers for visitors. The beach is great for people that want to perform body-boarding, wind surfing and etc.
DT Flemming Beach Park is quite popular among the tourists. The ocean tide tends to be calm. Sometimes, the waves of the ocean will rise and become dangerous. The beach has a steep slope so swimmers must take precautions. The beach is equipped with many facilities including lifeguards, barbeque grills, shady areas, phones and etc.
Ka’anapali Beach is located in many resorts in Ka’anapali. Near the beach, you can stroll on the concrete pavement. The concrete pavement starts from Black Rock hotel.
