In the past, many cruises and boats from different places come to dock at the Maalaea harbor. Today, many whale watching excursion boats are launched from this harbor. Many boats that launched from this harbor also go for snorkeling trips. Most of the snorkeling trips will go to Molokini Atoll. Maalaea beach has an extensive reef. The Maalaea Bay is an important National Humpback Whale Marine Sanctuary. It is a suitable mating ground for various types of humpback whales. If you visit the beach at Maalaea, you will have the opportunities to watch the green sea turtles. Often, the green sea turtles can be seen swimming among the reefs.
