    Real Estate in Paia 

    Paia started as a plantation town, for growing cane and pineapples. Now, it is a relaxed and laid-back town, with a beach community, which offers galleries, coffee houses, antiques, surf shops, ethnic restaurants, and a Fish Market. You will be able to savor many cuisines such as Mexican, Indian, American, Mediterranean, Vietnamese, also sushi, and vegetarian cuisine. 

    The most popular activity is surfing. The biggest waves are in Paia, and it is called the Windsurfing capital of the world (Hookipa Beach Park). The waves can reach 20 feet tall, and it attracts many board surfers, body builders, and windsurfers. The shore homes are close to town, at a walking distance, ideal for a stroll.

    Guide to Paia

    Paia is a small sugar plantation town situated on the north coast of Maui. The town has two sections including Lower Paia and Upper Paia. Paia is situated about 4 miles from Hana. It is the last town you will come across on the Hana Highway. According to the 2000 census, Paia has more than 2,400 residents and 780 households. The population of the Paia town consists of white, African American, Asian and Native American. The whites account for the largest percentage of population in Paia. There are also people with more than one race living in Paia town. The median age of the residents in Paia is 33 years old.

    In the past, the town used to be occupied by people involved in the sugar plantation business. After the sugar plantation industry wave, the people slowly moved away from the town. Today, you can view the rustic storefronts at the town of Paia. Local art galleries and restaurants can be observed at the town of Paia. There is a local store called Paia Fish market where you can buy fish burger. There are several Hawaiian and Mexican restaurants at Paia. 

    Paia is situated very near to the Hookipa Beach. Hookipa Beach is a well-known windsurfing beach visited by thousands of windsurfers every year. You can watch the professional carrying out windsurfing activities at Paia. During the summer, you can sunbathe at the ocean. The H.A. Baldwin Beach Park is situated near to the Paia town. H.A. Baldwin Beach Park has a baby beach and lagoon. In the winter season, the wave condition at the H.A. Baldwin Beach can be dangerous so you should avoid all water activities at this time. 

    Paia offers affordable residential housing units to the people. There are various kinds of properties in Paia including detached houses, townhouses, and etc. You will find plenty of 2 – 5 unit structures in Paia. The average cost of the housing in Paia is about $852,000. The 5-unit structure housing units cost as little as $249,000. The median household income is about $63,000. The residents that live in Paia are engaged in different types of industries including building, sales drivers, food preparation, cooks and etc. There are a few colleges located in the neighborhood such as Kapiolani Community College, Leeward Community College, University of Hawaii and Skyline College. There is an elementary school called Paia Elementary.
