Types of Transportation in Lanai

Traveling in Lanai is very convenient because there is a good transportation system. The main car rental center in Lanai is the Dollar Rent a Car rental shop. Tourists can rent jeeps and safari vehicles at the rental shop. If you are interested in exploring Lanai, you can rent a four-wheel drive at the car rental center. The cost of renting a four-wheel drive vehicle is about $120 - $150 including tax. You will be charged with surcharge fees of about $3 per day. If you want to rent the vehicle weekly, you can pay the weekly rate. You need to make a reservation when renting the car. You can rent the car from several places including Dollar Rent a Car agency, Trilogy Ocean Sports, Four Seasons Resorts and etc. Lanai has many jeep trails so renting a jeep to explore the are is a good option.

Most people prefer to travel by rental cars. However, if you can’t afford to rent a car, you can hire a taxi. One of the taxi companies that offer taxi services at Lanai is Joi’s Taxi.

You can book flights from the Hawaiian Airlines to several destinations including U.S. mainland, and other islands in Hawaii. The Hawaiian Airlines also provide flight services to several gateway cities such as Tahiti, and Australia. The airline offers a comprehensive cargo service for customers.

Besides, you can explore Lanai by taking the Maui – Lanai Ferry. The ferry company has been providing reliable ferry service between Lanai city and Maui city for many years. During the ferry ride, you can observe the scenery of islands such as Molokai, Lanai and Kaho’olawe. You can observe the humpback whales from the ferry during the sea voyage. To take the Lanai – Maui ferry, you have to visit the dock at the Pioneer Inn.  The cost of the ferry ticket is $30 per adult and $20 per child.  Tourists can choose from various types of Explore Lanai packages. If you sign up for one of the tour package with the ferry company, you will participate in a guided tour. The ferry will depart from the Lahaina Harbor 5 times per day and return to the Manele Harbor in Lahaina 5 times daily.  The ferry ride will take about 45 minutes. The best time to take the ferry is in the morning. If you take the ferry at later times of the day, it is slightly dangerous because of the winds.
