Tourists who are at Lanai can visit the historical sites. There are a number of historical sites at Lanai including Dole Park, Garden of the Gods, Federation Camp, Halulu Heaiu and etc Dole Park is a plantation village located in the middle of Lanai City. The village was developed during 1922. At the park, you can find all kinds of recreational activities such as picnic tables, pavilion and etc. At the island, there are many Norfolk pine trees. You can find the shops, children playground at the edge of the Lanai city. There is a large grassy area for people to carry out picnic activities. If you come by car, you can park at the streets near the Dole Park.

Garden of the Gods is developed from rocks that are eroded over the years. The weather condition causes the rocks to be eroded and form into different shapes. It is called the Garden of the Gods because the native people believe that the gods drop rocks from the sky and form the garden. This historical site is located in a remote canyon. You will be able to observe various colors of the rocks including red, purple and etc. The area is dry, windy and has many rock formations. If you want to view the scenery at the site, you can visit during the morning. You can also visit the site late in the evening. During this time, the sunray will shine on the minerals inside the rock and reveal vibrant colors. While you are at the site, you will find several wild animals including axis deer, mouflon and etc. Garden of the Gods is situated near to the Lanai City. To travel by road to the site, you have to travel on a four-wheel drive vehicle. If there is rain in the area, it is recommended that you don’t drive to the place. The road covers the area from Ka’ena Point to Polihua Beach.

Federation Camp is a fishing camp built during the early 1930s. The fishing camp is actually developed by fishermen from the Philippines. The local people still use the fishing camp to perform the fishing activities. Nearby the place, you will find facilities such as picnic table, small houses, and etc. The camp is made from scrap lumbers so it looks a little bit shaggy. The local fishermen maintain the camp. It is advised that you don’t enter into the buildings. However, you may travel to this area as part of your tour in Lanai.

Halulu Heiau is an ancient village built by a group of native religious people. Historical record states that King Kamehameha uses the island of Lanai as a vacation spot after he conquered it. King Kamehameha rebuild the old heiau so that it can become a more comfortable place. After rebuilding the old heiau, he renamed it as luakini heiau. Luakini heiau means a place of refuge in Hawaiian language. It is given this name because any lawbreaker that escape and come to this place will not be punished.
