Guide to the Hiking Trails in Lanai

Lanai has several interesting hiking trails. If you prefer to explore Lanai on foot, you can follow the hiking trail. There are a number of hiking trails in Lanai including Munro Trail, Kaiolohia-Kahue Trail, and Garden of the Gods Trail.

Munro Trail is a dirt road that starts from the north side of Lanai City. Hiking on the trail will bring you past the Four Seasons Resort Lanai. The trail is named after George Munro. From Munro Trail, you can get a spectacular view of the 1600-foot mountain. Following the trail will take you past the rainforest. While hiking in the middle of the rainforest, you can observe al kinds of plants such as pine trees, and ironwood. The trail is about 2.5 miles long. You will be able to view the scenery of the islands in the neighborhood such as Maui Molokai and Oahu in a distant. If you don’t want to travel on foot, you can cycle on the trail. If you keep on hiking the Munro Trail, you will reach the summit of Lanai mountain. The summit of Lanai mountain is about 3,370 above the sea level. Alternatively, you can rent a four-wheel drive vehicle to hike the trail. Before embarking on the hiking trip, you should make sure that the vehicle has a full petrol tank. In addition, you should bring food and water because the weather is dry.

Kaiolohia-Kahue Trail is a remote hiking trail situated near to the Shipwreck Beach. Many local fishermen used the Kaiolohia-Kahue Trail to reach remote areas. The trail was first developed in the late 19th century. The purpose of developing the trail is to connect the small settlements along the coast. At that time, many people live in Lanai because of the thriving fishing industry. As years passed by, the sand covers up the trail. If you visit the Kaiolohia-Kahue Trail now, you will notice a lot of kiawe shrubs. To restore the lost trail, the government developed the Na Ala Hele Trails and Access Program plan. Although the Na Ala Hele Trails and Access Program has been developed, no action has been taken to complete the project.

Gardens of the Gods has many trails. Some of the trails which you can find at the Gardens of the Gods including Perkins Central Garden Trail, Ridge Trail, Siamese Twins Trail, Chamber Trail and Scotsman Trail. The easiest trail is the Perkins Central Garden trail. The Perkins Central Garden Trail is about 1.5 miles long. The trail is located about 30 foot above the land. Ridge Trail is a moderate trail that is located on a land with a height of less than 100 foot. The Siamese Twins Trail is a 1-mile trail that provides you with a wonderful view of the Pikes Peak.
