Guide to Central Lanai for Tourists

Tourists who happen to visit the central Lanai should pay visits to the tourist destinations. There are a few interesting places to go in central Lanai including Munro Trail and Lanai City. Munro Trail is a dirt road that leads to the summit of Mount Lanaihale. The summit of the Mount Lanaihale is about 3,370 foot high. If you go to the summit of Mount Lanaihale, you can see 6 islands that are located in a distant place. It takes about 3 hours to travel on the 7 miles dirt trail. As you drive along the trail, you will reach a place called Maunalei Gulch. The local people name it Maunalei Gulch because the clouds often engulf it like lei. Lei means wreath in Hawaiian language. The Munro Trail is the site where the warriors from Lanai were killed by the armies of King Kalaniopuu. There are several trails near to the main Munro trail. It is important that you stay on the main Munro trail because of the road conditions.

Lanai City is developed from a volcanic mountain called Lanai Hale. It is a small island that becomes inhabited in the early 15th century. Several battles have taken place at Lana since 1770. The numerous battles caused the city to be destroyed. King Kamehameha is the last king to conquer the island. He brought piece to the people on the island. After conquering the island, he converted it to a vacation retreat. The western people had sailed past the island for more than 50 years before discovering it. Charles Gay purchased most of the lands on the island. Eventually, he sold the lands to the Lanai Company because of the difficult economy. The Dole Company established a pineapple plantation at the town. Houses and shops are built at the pineapple plantation village because of the immigrated workers. Throughout the island, there are many Norfolk pine trees. The Norfolk pine trees can reach as high as 135 feet. Most of the residents in Lanai live in Lanai City.

There are a few golf courses located within the proximity of Lanai including Four Seasons Resort Lanai, The Challenge at Manele, Experience at Koele and Hulopoe Court. While in Lanai, you can stay at the Hotel Lanai. Hotel Lanai, also known as Best Little Inn, is s a historical landmark. The rooms look quite similar to the rooms of houses at the plantations. Tourists can sleep on the hammocks in the afternoon. Another hotel where tourists can stay is the Four Seasons Resort Lanai. The lodge is near to the ocean.
