Real Estate in Waimea

Waimea is a resort destination that is very low key compared to other ones in Hawaii. You will find all the typical amenities such as restaurants, banks, schools, churches, movies and markets, without the busy hustle and bustle of a larger town. There is also a hospital and medical center located near the town in case you happen to fall ill during your visit.

Waimea town is a historical town located on the island of Kauai. In Hawaiian language, Waimea means red water. The town covers an area of 1.3 square miles. Tourists often visit Waimea to explore the canyons and ridges. There are many trails, which you can follow to explore the canyons. It is estimated that there are more than 1,500 people living in Waimea town.

Waimea town has a rich history of European culture. It is situated on the west side of Waimea Canyon. Waimea Canyon is the longest and deepest canyon in the Pacific. It is about 10 miles long and 3,500 feet deep. If you visit the canyon, you will see lines in the canyon walls. The lines in the canyon walls are evidences that volcanic eruptions have taken place in the past centuries. When you are hiking the Waimea Canyon, you will have the opportunity to view the natural wonder. The Waimea canyon covers an area of 4,345 acres of land. The trail that stretches across the Waimea Canyon is about 45 miles long. You can either use a jeep to travel on the 40 miles trail or travel by foot. Due to the elevation in the Waimea Canyon, the air becomes cooler about 10 – 15 times.

Waimea town is situated within proximity to the site, which Captain James Cook had landed in 1778. At the site, you will find the Captain Cook monument. The Captain Cook monument is erected in the middle of the town. A replica of the Captain Cook monument is located in Whitby, England. There are a few small shops at the town. More and more technology companies are choosing Waimea town as the site for their headquarter office. When you are at Waimea town, you can visit the West Kauai Technology & Visitor Center. You can learn about the history of Waimea in details at the West Kauai Technology & Visitor Center. You can explore about the exhibits and weekly activities at the visitor center. Another nearby town you should visit is the Hanapepe town.

Tourists who happen to visit the Waimea town can visit the Waimea Valley Park. At the Waimea Valley Park, you will find the Waimea Falls. You will notice that the water in the Waimea Falls is a bit red in color because of the iron oxide from the volcanic soil. Waimea Falls is about 60 feet high so you must be careful when jumping into the pool below.

Meaning red water in Hawaiian, Waimae is known as the place where English Captain James cook landed. Aside from this, Waimae is also popular because of the Waimea Canyon, which was according to Mark Twain, the ‘Grand Canyon of the Pacific’.

The Waimae Canyon, which is around 10 miles long and 3,000 feet deep, attracts numerous tourists all over the world. The Waimea Canyon State Park is around 1,866 acres and could handle visitors, hikers, and backpackers camping and hiking in the area. There are also other hiking trails in the state park that tourists could also explore. With several hiking trails, Waimea Canyon can be reached from Waimea on Hawaii’s state road 550. This is around 18 miles long and reaches up to the Koke’e State Park. At the same time, Niihau, which is just west of Kauai, can be seen from the highway.

Aside from the active tourist population, Waimea is also home to 1,787 residents, which includes 620 households, and 454 families as of the 2000 census. Based from the United States Census Bureau, the census-designated place has a total area of 1.3 square miles, where 1.0 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles is water.
