Kalaheo is a town located in Kauai County, Hawaii. The National Tropical Botanical Garden can be found in the Kalaheo County. As of the 2000 census, it has a population of approximately 3,900 people. In the Hawaiian language, Kalaheo means proud day. People with various races live in Kalaheo including Asian, Caucasian, African American and Hispanic. Kalaheo offers fresh air because of its rustic environment. If you are tired of the toxic air in the city, you can move to Kalaheo. Kalaheo is a quaint town with few buildings and highways. The town covers an area of approximately 2.9 square miles. It is situated about 700 feet above the sea level. The average age of the people that live on the island is 40 years old.

Kalaheo used to have a booming coffee bean industry. The mass coffee bean production has helped the economy of the town. The town is home to the Kalaheo Café and Coffee Company. Kalaheo Café and Coffee Company are responsible for producing the largest percentage of coffee in Hawaii. Most of the coffees produced by the company are exported to foreign countries. It is a distinguished coffee production company because it uses high quality coffee bean processing machine. Kalaheo Café and Coffee Company has been producing coffee since the early 1800s. In 1813, Don Francisco de Paula Marin planted the first coffee plant in Kalaheo. The first attempt to grow the coffee plant is not successful.  Later, Marin planted the coffee plant in a valley called Manoa Valley. This time, Marin was successful. The coffee plantation expands at a fast rate at that time.

Kalaheo offers a large range of tourist attractions. There are a variety of tourist attractions in Kalaheo. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Kalaheo is the Olu Pua Gardens and Plantations. Olu Pua means harmony among the flowers. Olu Pua garden exhibits the best flowering plants in Kauai and Hawaii. It houses a large area of the tropical rainforest. If you want to perform water activities, you can visit the Inuoloue Reservoir and Alexander’s Lake. You can carry out all sorts of water activities such as swimming, snorkeling, and fishing at the lake. Many people also like to sunbathe in the Inuoloue Reservoir and Alexander’s Lake. Nearby the reservoir, you will find the Kaukiuki Falls. While at the Kaukiuki Falls, you can relax and listen to the noises made by the tropical birds.
