Family activities are often based around the kitchen area so this is a very important room of the house. Things such as dinner which should be quiet family time. You should be also opt to purchase a home that has been recently updated with modern appliances as well. If possible the he dining room area and/or breakfast nook should be located adjacent to the kitchen for your convenience. 

Many prefer for their kitchen to be relatively close to the back yard for easy access to things such as barbecues and other outdoor entertaining. Another thing that should be looked into is a small walk to the garage from the kitchen for carrying in groceries. You do not want to have to tote shopping bags farther than you have too.
