Nuuanu is a valley in the ahupuaa region of the Oahu Island. It is not an ahupuaa.  It has a rich history of the Hawaiian monarchy. Many years ago, King Kamehameha I fought and conquer the enemy army at this site. King Kamehameha I fought off the soldiers so that he can unite the islands. The site has an important role in the culture of the Hawaiian people in the past. Nuuanu is situated in the Kona section of Oahu. During an excavation in 1848, archaeologists found the skulls of more than 80 warriors in the valley.

Throughout the centuries, Nuuanu has been the passageway in between the windward site and leeward site. Nuuanu has important transportation role in Oahu. The Nuuanu harbor is the local ocean harbor. The commercial center is situated below the valley. Most tourists come to Nuuanu by taking airplane. If you take a flight, the plane will arrive at the Honolulu International Airport. Nuuanu is situated quite near to the downtown center of Honolulu. Many people that are fed up of the city life of Honolulu moved here because of the peaceful atmosphere. The Koolau Mountains are located within proximity to Nuuanu. Since it is situated near to the ocean, you can expect the area to have many gentle breezes. The gentle breezes will blow in the afternoon so you should feel too hot at this time of the day. With the gentle breezes, you will feel cool in the summer season. From time to time, the Nuuanu valley receives rainfall. In fact, the Nuuanu region receives a large amount of precipitation. The rainfall provides water for the plants in the Nuuanu Valley. People who want to explore the local culture often visit the historical site of Nuuanu Valley. If you want to get a view of the whole island of Oahu, you can climb up to the Nuuanu Pali Lookout.

The Nuuanu Pali Lookout is situated on an elevation of about 1,186 foot high. The peak of the Nuuanu Pali Lookout is about 3,000 foot high. From the lookout, you can get a bird eye view of several towns including Kaneohe, Kailua, and Koolau Mountains. If you want to reach the Nuuanu Pali Lookout, you must take the Pali Highway Route 61. You can visit the Nuuanu Pali Lookout from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. everyday.
