Visitors can jog and stroll along the walkway to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the canal. Nearby the Ala Wai Canal are the Hawaii Convention Center, apartments, and golf courses.
Diamond Head Trail is situated on the southeaster coast of Oahu. There is a volcanic crater on Diamond Head. The local Hawaiians initially called the place Laeahi. Laeahi means brow of the tuna because the silhouette of the volcanic crater looks like it. Diamond Head is the new name assigned to it by the sailors from England during the 1800s. The British sailors called the volcanic crater as Diamond Head because they thought it has many diamonds. When they first saw it, it looks like it is sparkling. Actually, it was the effect of the sunlight on the calcite crystal. There are 2 different stairs to climb. One of the sets of stairs has 99 steps while the second set of stairs has 76 steps. It is relatively easy to hike the trail. While climbing the stairs, you can observe the west side of the Oahu Island. You will be able to catch a breathtaking view of the scenery from Waikiki and Koki Head.
When going hiking, it is important that you inform the friends who accompany you during the trip. It is best that you go hiking along with 2 – 3 people. In this way, you and your friends can look after each other during the camping trip. Some of the basic equipments you need to bring include water, first aid kit, snacks and etc. You should always stay on the trail and not wander off to other area of the forest. If you wander off the trail, you may get lost and won’t be able to find your way back.
