Hookipa Beach is one of the top windsurfing spot in Maui. The beach is part of the Hookipa Beach Park. In 1933, the Maui Agriculture company leased the land to be used as park. It was named Hookipa because of the hospitality of Maui Agriculture Company. The songwriter, Alice Johnson wrote a song called Ho’okpa Park Hula, which contributes to the popularity of the beach. The first contemporary surfing activity was carried out in 1930s. In 1935, the Hookipa Surf Club was formed. Harold Rice constructed the small clubhouse. The two foremost brothers that founded Hookipa Surf Club are Donald Uchimura and Teruor Uchimura. Windsurfing activities was introduced to Hawaii in the 1970s. Oahu is the most popular windsurfing spot. Later, the windsurfing activities are carried out at Hookipa Beach Park.  By that time, Hookipa is already very famous as a windsurfing site. Many board sailing activities are carried out in Hookipa Beach every year.

Hookipa Beach is situated on the Hana Highway. It is not only famous as a local windsurfing spot but it is famous throughout the world for the windsurfing activities. Two major windsurfing competitions are held at the beach every year including Aloha Classic contest and Red Bull contest. Besides these two windsurfing competitions, other water sport competitions are also held at Hookipa Beach. The bottom of the ocean has a variety of reef. The coral reef of the beach extends up to 1/8 mile. Kanaha Beach is part of a park called Kanaha Beach Park. It is located on a long stretch of coast in north Maui. The beach has white sand and many coastal dunes. The park houses various types of Hawaiian coastal plants and animals. If you are at Kanaha Beach Park, you will be able to observe more than 30 species of Hawaiian plants. It is home to many endangered Polynesian plant species. Some of the Polynesian plant species you can observe at the beach include Dodonaea Viscosa, Cyperus Javanicus, Wikstroemia Uva Ursi, Sporobolus virginicus, Boerhavia repens and Colubrina asiatica. Besides, Kanaha Beach is habitat to several native insects including long horned beetle, Blackburn hawk moth, hyposmocoma moths, yellow-faced fees, koa bug, coconut leaf roller, grass leaf roller, and grass leaf roller.<strong></strong>

Kanaha Beach is one of the most popular windsurfing beaches in the world. Many people like to come here to carry out surfing activity, especially when the ocean swells up. Besides windsurfing, other activities such as kite boarding, fishing, swimming and fishing are also very popular here. The local people often come to this beach to relax and carry out recreational activities. There are very few tourists that know the beach because it is situated far away from the tourist center.

Adults will have to pay $5 per night. Children will be charged $2 per night. Pets are allowed in the camping area. The camping fee for per pet is $2 per night. During weekend, the camping fee will be more expensive. Hawaii residents will pay a cheaper fee.

In addition, there is a canoe halau and three volleyball courts. Nearby the bathhouse, there are several payphones for tourists to make phone calls. Kanaha Beach is near to the airport. It is located at Amala Place. If you want to come to Kanaha Beach, you need to take the Hana Highway 36.

Kapalua Beach is a crescent shaped bay in Maui. The beach is suitable for families and children because it is protected from rough ocean surf. Many coconut trees can be found at beach. The beach is situated approximately 15 minutes of driving from Ka’anapali Beach. If you want to walk to the beach, you have to stay at Kapalua Resort. Kapalua Beach has more than 30 miles of shoreline.

Kapalua Beach is suitable for carrying out almost all types of ocean recreational activities including swimming, snorkeling, sailing, and kayaking. If you want to snorkel, you should go to the right side of the beach. The beach is home to many small coral colonies. You will be able to explore a variety of tropical fishes at the beach. Ocean recreational activities such as body surfing and kayaking are quite popular at Kapalua Beach.

At the center of the bay, the water is slightly cloudy because of the sandy bottom. You can go to the rocky edge at the north end to snorkel. At the north end of Kapalua Beach, the water is less murky so you should be able to see clearer. There are more tropical fishes swimming in the water at this area. The depth of the water reaches up to 10 feet. At this depth, you will be able to get a close view of the ocean reef. If you want to get a clearer view of the reef, you have to swim further into the shore. There are a number of tropical fishes you can observe at Kapalua Bay including butterfly fish, tang, wrasse, goatfish, hawk fish and crustaceans.

From Kapalua Beach, you can get a good view of the Molokai Beach. It is protected from the high waves because there are lava rocks on each end. During the winter months, you can see whales surfacing in the ocean. There are several beach facilities including showers, restrooms, and activities center. Lifeguard services are available at Kapalua Beach. You can rent various types of water sports equipments at the activities center.

Big Beach is situated on the south shore of Maui. The beach has a shoreline that is 1100 yards long and 65 yards wide. It is very popular among tourists on Maui. Big Beach is also known as Makena Beach. However, most people prefer to call it Big Beach because it fits this description. Makena Beach has two sections including Big Beach and Small Beach. Big Beach is located on the left while Small Beach is located on the right. Actually, Makena beach located to the north but many people also call Big Beach as Makena Beach. There is a small path that connects Big Beach to Little Beach. Nude sunbathers often visit little Beach. It is one of the beaches in Hawaii that allow nude sunbathing.

To the right of Big Beach, you will find a large hill. The large hill called Pu’u Ola’i is well known for volcano eruption. The volcano eruption is so powerful that the lava explodes out from the water and formed the Pu’u Ola’i hill. Various types of facilities are available including picnic tables, portable toilets, restrooms, and paved parking. There are no fresh drinking water and beach shower. You can carry out all kinds of water sport activities at Big Beach including body boarding, snorkeling and etc. The beach is open until evening, when the gate is locked. Big Beach can experience rip tides occasionally. If you are not sure whether it is safe to enter the water, you should follow the local. You should go to the site where the local go for swimming at the beach. If you stand at Big Beach, you can observe two islands including Molokini and Kaho’olawe.

Big Beach is situated in the Makena State Park so it is more remote compare to other beaches in Maui. It is a popular body-boarding site. Kamaole Beach is part of the Kamaole Beach Park. It is located on the south Maui. Actually, there are three Kamaole beaches. The local people often refer the three Kamaole beaches as Kam 1, Kam 2, and Kam 3. Opposite to Kam 1 and Kam 2, you will find two large shopping centers including Dolphin Center and Rainbow Mall. The largest beach is located at Kam 1 while the largest park is located at Kam 3. Kam 3 has a large grassy area for carrying out picnicking activities. There are many facilities at Kam 3 including restrooms, bathrooms, beach showers and etc. There is a volleyball court at the north of Kamaole Beach Park. You can find payphone facility at the north end of the park. The picnic tables at the beach can be easily accessible by wheel chairs. Sand wheelchairs are available for people with problems moving around.

If you are at Kamaole Beach, you can go snorkeling and swimming at the beach. The sand dunes keep the beach from being exposed to the highway. Kamaole Beach I is about 590 yards long. It is the longest beach compare to rest of the two Kamaole beaches. Kamaole Beach II is smaller than Kamaole Beach I. It is also a good spot for performing recreational activities such as swimming and snorkeling. Kamaole Beach III has the shortest shoreline. Every Kamaole Beach Park has its own parking lot. It is free to park your car at the parking lot. Kamaole Beach is open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. However, the lifeguard services are only available from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Kahekili Beach Park is located on the west side of Maui. Kahekili Beach is a short name for the b each. Ali'i Kahekili Nui Ahumanu Beach Park is the full name of the beach park. The name of Kahekili Beach is derived from the last king that reign in Hawaii. King Kahekili reigned in Maui for 45 years. He stops reigning in 1794 when he was defeated in the war. He was the father of King Kamehameha. King Kamehameha fought against his father King Kahekili so that he can conquer the land of Hawaii. Some people call King Kahekili Airport Beach because it is near to the Ka’anapali Airport.

Kahekili Beach has a long shoreline and many facilities. The wind is not too strong here because there is a windbreak. The windbreak prevents the afternoon wind from becoming violent. Kahekili Beach is a great snorkeling and scuba diving spot. It is not recommended that you carry out swimming activities at the beach because there are many hidden rocks in the ocean. If you want to swim, you should go to the site near the Black Rock.

Kahekili Beach is not as developed as Ka’anapali Beach. Several types of facilities can be found at Kahekili Beach Park including paved parking lot, picnic tables, beach showers, and restrooms. On the right side of Kahekili Beach, you will find a golf course. Kahekili Beach is a good snorkeling spot because there is a coral reef. The coral reef extends up to a few feet into the water and gradually disappears.

Kahekili Beach Park is open from 6 a.m. to sunset. After 30 minutes the sun has set, the gat to the parking lot will be closed. If you forgot about the closing time and your car is locked inside the car park, you can approach the security guard and tell him to open the gate. They will take about 45 minutes to come back to the car park. You don’t have to park in the parking lot of the beach park. You can park at the empty spaces nearby the gate of the parking lot. There are also private parking lots where you can park your car.

If you want to go to Kahekili Beach Park, you can take the Honoapi’ilani Highway. You should head west on Honoapi’ilani Highway. While traveling on Honoapi’ilani Highway, you will pass by Lahaina and Ka’anapali parkway. After that, you should turn left and see the parking lot of the Kahekili Beach Park.

DT Flemming Beach is a popular beach in the Kapalua Resort area in the northwestern coast of Maui. Ritz Carlton hotel is located just behind the beach. Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman voted it as the best American beach in 2006. DT Flemming Beach has been voted as the best beach in America for 11 times. Local and foreign tourists often visit it. There are many recreational activities you can perform at the beach including bodysurfing, body boarding, surfing, snorkeling and etc. There are plenty of ironwood trees and palm trees at DT Flemming Beach so you can picnic here. There is also a large place for picnicking. Several BBQ grills can be found at the beach. Lifeguards are stationed at the beach to oversee the swimmers. There are a few restrooms and outdoor showers.

The ocean may develop riptide when the water rise up to a high level. It can be dangerous to swim when the rip tide occurs. DT Flemming Beach has a steep slope so you need to be careful when swimming. In the afternoon, there will be much wind blowing against the beach so you will feel windy at this time. If you plan to not do any recreational activity, you should bring your beach chair. In this way, you can sit on the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

DT Flemming Beach is a family friendly beach ideal for both adults and children. You should always check the weather conditions before going to swim at DT Flemming Beach. If the water condition is rough, it is recommended that you don’t carry out any ocean recreational activities. You can check the wave conditions on the erase board. The erase board can be found near the lifeguard shack. The erase board provides information about the tide, wave condition, signs and advisory. Nearby DT Flemming Beach, there are many resorts and golf courses. You will find a six holes golf course that is designed by Arnold Palmer. You should avoid surfing at the area where the local fishermen is fishing. The fishing area usually has a lot of baits.

If you want to reach DT Flemming Beach, you should take the Highway 30. While you are traveling on Highway 30, you should look for the sign that tells you to turn left into Lower Honoapiilani Road. The Lower Honoapiilani Road green sign is situated between Markers 31 and 32.
