Hanalei is located on the northern region of Kauai, and it is a small, yet intimate place to visit, who's main crop is taro. Due to the intimacy that the area offers, many people find that this is the go to place when they want to vacation in Hawaii. The entire island is based around the Hanalei beach, which boasts white sands that attract tourists from everywhere. There are also mountains in the area that give a splendid view to those that wish to see it.

One of the main attractions, besides the beautiful beaches is Hanalei bay that from above is in the shape of a half moon, which makes sense since the meaning of Hanalei means the shape of a crescent or half moon. The bay makes it possible for visitors to take a leisurely stroll or to participate in water sports such as swimming. Other water sports are not recommended here simply because the water is relatively calm and the concept of surfing would be a complete lost. However, for those visiting, only swim where there are lifeguards on duty. The water may be calm most of the time, but an accident can occur even in the calmest of waters, therefore, it is best to be safe than sorry.

Hanalei has many beach parks that the visitor can enjoy a picnic at, or just a day lounging in the sun. For example, some of the most popular beach parks are Haena State Park, Anini State Park and Lumahai Beach Park. For those that are looking for more tourist activities such as shopping, then Hanalei will not disappoint in this aspect either. There are many clothing and gift shops located throughout the villages that offer a variety of items for the avid tourist to choose from.

The main source of revenue for Hanalei is tourism. Which means that those residents take extreme care of the land and are always looking for ways in which they can improve tourism and attract more people to visit, however they are still keeping the integrity of the land intact.
