Most botanical gardens in Maui showcase the local floras and faunas. There are several Maui botanical gardens that are open to the general public including Kula Botanical Gardens, Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens, Enchanting Floral Gardens, Garden of Eden Arboretum, Keanae Arboretum, Maui’s Botanical Gardens and Kehanu Garden.
Two brothers including Warren and Helen McCord established Kula Botanical Garden. It is open for visitation from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. The majority of the visitors prefer to discover the garden on foot. You can wander around the pavements and explore the plants in the garden. The garden ios situated about 3,300 feet above the Haleakala slope. If you want to explore the tropical plants, you should stay at the botanical garden for at least 45 minutes. Picnic chairs and tables can be found at the area. You can participate in the group tour as well. At the botanical garden, there is a gift shop that sells handicraft items. There is a deck where you can view the scenery of the whole botanical garden. You can also get snacks at the shop.
Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens is the site of a fierce battle that involves warriors from Maui a long time ago. The corpses of the dead warriors used to fill the Iao Stream. Today, the garden offers a range of structures such as Hawaiian grass shack, Chinese Moon Gate and etc. There are several picnic pavilions. You can enter into the Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens for free.
Enchanting Floral Gardens is an 8-acre garden that located about 2500 feet above the slope. The garden offers more than 1500 species of the plants. Visitors can observe the flowers on the land. There are so many flowers that they cover every area of the botanical garden. Various types of tropical flowering plants can be found at enchanting floral gardens including proteas, orchids, and etc. In the botanical garden, you will find many types of fruit trees as well.
Keanae Arboretum is a tropical park located about 0.8 miles from the road to Hana. If you are interested in exploring the native plants, you can visit this tropical park. You will find both short and long trails at the arboretum. The finest trees and plants in Hawaii can be found at the arboretum.
Maui’s Botanical Gardens has a wide variety of colorful flowers. A certified designer called Alan Bradbury designs the garden. The garden has more than 500 types of botanical plants. There is a large range of flowers, birds and trees that are rarely seen. Most of the plants are grown in the South Pacific areas. You can hike and picnic at the area.
Kehanu Garden is located on the Hana coast. At the garden, you can explore plants that grow in Polynesia and Micronesia. You will be able to learn about the different culture of the people. You can find a large range of breadfruit cultivars at the garden. The lava rock structure, Pi’ ilanihale the site is a National Historic Landmark.
