Kapa's town is a small, quiet 19th century plantation town. As small as the area is, it is home to a surprising number of small businesses and shops that cater to locals and tourists alike. Near Kapa's Town, you will find the Nonou mountain range, also known as the "Sleeping Giant." This mountain range resembles the face of a sleeping monster, hence the nickname. Legend has it that a large man who ate constantly was ravaging the villagers of their food. One day, they plotted to kill the man so they fed him rocks and other materials. He went to sleep, but never woke up again. Now, if you believe this story or not is irrelevant, as the mountain range itself is one of the most beautiful in the state.

North of the Kapaa Beach is the Kealia beach, which is 150 feet wide and ½ mile long. This beach is very popular with surfers and boogie boarders because of the large waves that are generated here. There are rocks and other hazards scattered about, so make sure you know the area before swimming. The north shore was used once as a place to land steamer ships when the area was in the prime of it's plantation growing. If you look hard enough, you may still be able to find a few ruins of this ancient area. Today, the area is known for it's salt mines, which is adjacent to the beach.

Living in Kapaa

Most people are happy with their lifestyles after moving to Kapaa. The advantage of living in Kapaa is that you will be able to enjoy the environment. If you do research, you will find that almost everyone that move to Hawaii will experience insect problems. The warm climate causes the Kauai to have all kinds of insects. The insects here are especially big so you should not be surprised when seeing them. Another disadvantage is that Kapaa has a high living cost. Despite that, statistic shows that about 75% of people who moved to Kapaa are very satisfied with their life. You will be happy to meet the people at Kapaa. They are warm and friendly so you will enjoy your stay there. You will also get to see rainbows frequently as there will always be rain. During the Whale breeding season, you can take a short trip to the beaches and watch the whales jumping out from the water. The air in Kapaa is always fresh because there are plenty of trees and mountains. You will also be able to participate in luau activities and watch hula shows at anytime you want. Kapaa has a few fantastic golf courses.
