Keeping Your Outdoor Wood Furniture In Good Condition

If you have a spacious yard or patio, having outdoor furniture is a great idea. It becomes an additional space for the family to gather. You can sit outside for some air, enjoy meals out in the open, or just hang out enjoying the morning sun.

Many people opt for metal or plastic furniture to avoid potential problems with wooden fixtures. After all, wood can rot when subjected to wet spells and the outdoors is a very susceptible area to encounter such conditions. Rain, dew and moisture from the ground can all contribute to destroying wooden furniture.

Wooden furniture, however, are extremely great to own. They are sturdier, better-looking and often prove to be more comfortable than other options. You can enjoy wooden furniture for your outdoors spot as long as you take precautions to keep it clean and dry.

Protecting Wood Furniture

The first thing you can do is to buy and install waterproof furniture covers for your outdoor furnishings. Remember to put them on once rain starts to pour. A lot of people tend to forget using them, causing damage to their outdoor furniture investments.

You should apply water-protection sealant two to four times a year to help protect your furnishings. There are different types depending on the kind of wood you have. When in doubt, consult the shop you bought it from, including which types of wood preservatives are best to apply.

You will probably need to tighten screws and nails once-in-a-while. When subjected to frequent weather changes, wood can naturally shrink and swell causing attached corners to come off.

Hard surfaces like concrete are great spots to situate wood furniture in. Grass is probably the worst, because it adds to moisture and can rot the legs on your wooden tables and chairs with time. If you have no choice, consider treating the lower parts of the wood with water-protection sealant more often.

When wood is wet, wipe it dry. Donít just wait for the sun to dry it. The longer the water stays on the surface, the more damage it can do. Keep your outdoor wooden furniture in top form by not letting it happen.

Cleaning Wood Furniture

You can clean outdoor wooden furniture the same way you clean indoor ones. A wood cleaner solution will help remove stains and dirt with little work and should prove just fine with your wooden outdoor installations. Make sure to dry them thoroughly with a fresh cloth after youíre done.

Enjoy It

Of course, you protect and maintain your wood furniture so you can enjoy it when the weather is amiable. When the sun is shining and the day is permitting, gather family and friends to enjoy the outdoors ñ right outside your house.
