Every year, thousands of people will take hiking trips to Diamond Head. Diamond Head is located very near to the Waikiki beach. You can reach the entrance of the Diamond Head by various types of transportations including bus, taxi, car and etc. The Diamond Head entrance is located within the proximity of the Diamond Head Road. It is also located near to the 18th Avenue. Nearby to the entrance, you will see a bus stop. After you see the bus stop, you should turn left. Turning left will lead you to the entrance of the Diamond Head Crater. You will have to pass a tunnel before you can reach the entrance. Before you pass through the tunnel, you will pass by a lookout point, which many visitors use to get an overview of East Oahu. You can take picture at this lookout point during the sunset.
Before hiking, you must prepare a few things. Some of the things you can prepare when hiking the Diamond Head include sneaker shoe, hat, and water. If you don’t have sneakers, you can bring your hiking boots. Since you are going to climb up to the Diamond Head, a lot of wind will blow against you. To curb the strong wind, you can wrap a lightweight windbreaker around your waist.
The best time to start your hiking trip is in the morning. The gate will be open at six o’ clock in the morning and close at six o’ clock in the evening. If you come in the morning, there will be lesser people. The atmosphere will be much cooler as well. The hiking trip will take about 1 – 2 hours depending on how fit you are. When hiking the trail, you can stop by at several locations to take pictures. If you walk fast, you can reach the end of the trail in 30 minutes. Hikers who want to hike the Diamond Head trail has to pay a small fee. Each adult hiker will be charged with $1 when hiking the trail. If you don’t want to hike the trail on foot, you can travel on the trail with a vehicle. You will be charged $5 per carload if you want to travel by car. Alternatively, you can take a bus to reach Diamond Head. The cost of the bus fare to Diamond Head is about $2.50 per person. If you decide to travel on foot, you need to walk past the parking lot.
