Kihei Travel Guide
Kihei used to be a bustling fishing port town on the west coast of Maui. Kihei is well known for the three Kamaole beach parks. The three Kamaole beach parks are Kamaole Beach Park I, Kamaole Beach Park II and Kamaole Beach Park III. These three beach parks are popular family destinations. You can carry out all kinds of water activities in Kihei including snorkeling, and swimming. It is safe to swim at the beach because there are many lifeguards. The Kamaole beaches are not better than the Waikiki Beach. However, it receives a significant amount of visitors. The Kalama Park is situated in the middle of Kihei. Although the park has a small beach, you will enjoy your vacation there. At the Kalama Park, there is a large grassy field equipped with facilities such as picnic tables, tennis courts and baseball courts. Besides the Kalama Beach, there are also other beaches, which you can visit to carry out wind surfing activities in the afternoon.
Maalaea is situated about 2 miles from the town of Kihei. It is a three miles long beach. You can watch people rowing canoe in the water. It offers a good beach atmosphere. From the beach, you can get a good view of West Maui. Additionally, you can visit the crescent shaped beach in the upmarket Wailea resort. There is a paved walkway at the beach in Grand Wailea resorts. The beaches are sheltered so they offer good swimming and snorkeling spots. About 2 miles south from Wailea is the Makena Beach. Makena Beach has two beaches including Big Beach and Little Beach. Big Beach has a long white sandy coastline while the small beach is where the nude bathers go. The small cove on the south of Makena is a popular site for wedding ceremony. The wedding ceremony is usually held in between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
There are 10 shopping malls in the Kihea town. The shopping malls in Kihei have varying sizes. The biggest shopping center in Kihei is Azeka Place. The shopping mall has more than 50 shops and restaurants. A new shopping center called Piilani Village Shopping Center has been opened. The shopping center covers an area of 150,000 square foot. There is also a large Hattie store and blockbuster video store at Kihei. Most of the visitors will prefer to cook their meals at their own rented condominiums. If you don’t want to cook yourself, you can dine out at the restaurants in Kihei. The food is moderately priced so it should be affordable.
