While most real estate value depends on the property inside and out other things play key role in the value as well including the outside of the home known as the landscaping and lot choice. The area that you choose should be on flat land with no bumpy sides or uneven land. If the property you are looking at is located in a typical neighborhood the lot choice should be rectangular with a good size amount of space. Try to choose a home that isn't oddly shaped. This can actually lower the resell value of the property.
You will now typically find houses with smaller yard space in modern homes compared to those of older homes but make sure you still have some personal space. You should never purchase a house where the backyard is taken up by either a swimming pool or anything else which leaves you no room to move about.
While you want a home that looks good on the outside you also do not want to purchase an over-landscaped property, either. A house that is fully landscaped may cost you hundreds of extra dollars versus one that is either partially landscaped or will be left for you to do. You may not be able to recover the extra costs in a future resell of your home so its best to avoid the additional costs that you can do yourself. Improving your landscape will always be cheaper and much easier once your all moved in. By investing a few dollars you can improve the grass, plant plants or shrubberies and even flowers around the house. This not only saves you money but allows you to personalize the landscape to your liking.
